Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel

Beverly Hills, California
August 2023

Some hotels have a signature dish, others a signature view. The Beverly Wilshire has a signature film, and more than three decades on, Pretty Woman is still doing a remarkable amount of the heavy lifting here. It's not the only reason to stay, but it's impossible to ignore, and honestly, the hotel doesn't really want you to.

The Pretty Woman Effect

Walk up to the entrance and the resemblance to the film is immediate, valets and bellmen in sharp uniforms, a steady rotation of high end cars pulling up, the kind of choreographed arrival that made the hotel such a perfect backdrop in the first place. Inside, the bar still serves its own take on a Pretty Woman cocktail, and it's a genuinely popular order, plenty of guests are visibly here at least partly for the cinematic connection, and staff seem entirely used to it rather than rolling their eyes. In fact there is a weekly schedule for tours of the hotel which focuses on this angle. If you're a fan of the film, this part of the experience absolutely delivers, just be aware the bar does host private events occasionally, so it's worth checking before building an evening around it.

Location

This is about as central as Beverly Hills gets, sitting right where Wilshire Boulevard meets Rodeo Drive. Every bit of high end shopping you'd expect is a short walk away, and the location alone is a major reason repeat guests keep coming back regardless of anything else.

Arrival & Vibe

The theatre of arrival is real, and it's part of the fun rather than feeling forced. Doormen, valets and a constant flow of people watching from the lobby and terrace give the place an energy that a lot of quieter five star hotels simply don't have. It leans into being seen as much as being comfortable, which suits some guests perfectly and might feel slightly much for others.

The Rooms

Here's the honest gap between the legend and the reality. While the lobby and public spaces carry the glamour well, guest rooms can feel like they're a refresh behind where you'd expect a Four Seasons of this profile to be, furniture and finishes in some rooms show their age, particularly noticeable late at night when you're not distracted by the view or the activity outside. Asking for a higher floor room is worth doing, both for the views over Beverly Hills and because the room quality seems to trend better the higher you go. We were lucky enough to be in a Suite so weren’t affected by this.

Dining & The Bar

The main restaurant does a solid job of California focused dining, and the bar area remains a genuinely enjoyable spot for a drink and some people watching, cocktail aside. It's not necessarily the best meal you'll have in Beverly Hills, but as an experience tied to the setting, it works.

Service

This is where the hotel quietly earns its keep. Staff across the board were attentive in a way that felt personal rather than scripted, quick to sort out small issues, quick to offer an extra pillow or fix a billing mistake without making a thing of it. It's the sort of service that smooths over the rougher edges elsewhere in the stay.

The Verdict

For film fans and anyone who wants the full Beverly Hills cinematic moment, the Beverly Wilshire delivers on that promise more honestly than most hotels manage with their signature claims. The location and service back it up. Just don't expect every guest room to match the glamour of the lobby.
