Most hotel suites are, structurally speaking, just rooms with a nice view. Ours wasn't. Absolute Mykonos's signature option is an actual windmill, one of the island's iconic stone towers, converted into a multi-level suite, and staying in it turned out to be every bit as novel as it sounds, along with a couple of quirks that come bundled in with the novelty.
Location & Setting
The hotel sits right in downtown Mykonos Hora, close enough to Little Venice, the Old Port and the famous Kato Mili windmills that you can walk to all of it within ten minutes. That's the upside. The slight catch, flagged by more than a few guests, is that the road leading to the hotel can be busy and lacks a proper pavement in places, so the short walk into town isn't always the relaxed stroll you'd hope for. Once you're through the doors, though, the property feels calm, private and very much its own world.
The Windmill Suite
This is the headline, and it mostly lives up to it. The suite is a genuine converted windmill, multi-level, around 78 square metres, with a separate sitting area, two bedrooms, and its own private outdoor jacuzzi. Climbing between levels via the original stone staircases is part of the charm, though it's worth knowing in advance if stairs after a long day (or a few cocktails) aren't your favourite thing. The honest bit: windmills were built thick-walled and small-windowed for very practical reasons, and that hasn't changed just because there's a minibar inside now. Don't expect a wall of glass overlooking the Aegean, the views from inside are limited, and what you're paying for is the experience and shape of the space itself rather than a sweeping sea panorama. The private outdoor jacuzzi is the other thing to manage expectations on, Mykonos is famously windy, especially up where the windmills traditionally sit to catch the wind, and depending on the day, that can make outdoor jacuzzi time more theoretical than actual.
Design
Throughout the property, the look is modern Mykonian minimalism done well, crisp white plaster, deep blue linens that nod to the sea, and clean lines that let the architecture do the talking. The contrast between that contemporary palette and the raw stone of the windmill itself is genuinely effective, old structure, new comfort, without either side feeling like an afterthought.
Pool, Spa & Food
The infinity pool with its built in jacuzzi and sunset views is one of the best reasons to hang around the property rather than rush into town, and the poolside bar makes it easy to do exactly that. The on-site spa offers a solid range of treatments, including aromatherapy and reflexology, plus a hot tub and sauna if you want to extend the relaxation indoors. The on-site restaurant covers Greek classics well, and breakfast was a strong, generous start to the day rather than an afterthought.
Service
It's a family run property, and that comes through in how personal the service feels. However we did have an issue with a loss of electricity one evening (the whole island lost electricity) and unfortunately the staff were not the most effective at getting this resolved.

The Verdict
If you want a genuinely different Mykonos stay, the windmill suite delivers something most hotels simply can't, real character, real history, and a layout you won't find anywhere else on the island. Just go in understanding what a windmill actually is: thick walls, small windows, multiple levels, and a lot of wind outside. Treat the jacuzzi and views as a bonus rather than the main event, and the rest of the experience, the service especially, more than carries the stay.
